OL97: Mark My Comments Feature May not Work when Using IMEP

SYMPTOMS

When using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP), the "Mark My Comments" feature will not function if you are using the feature that indents the original text with a character of your choice, sometimes called reply ticking.

RESOLUTION

You can work around the problem by turning off reply ticking with the following steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab.

  3. Click to clear the check box for "When replying to messages, indent original text with."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP). We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Outlook has a feature that lets you mark the comments you make when replying to an e-mail message. This feature will not work when you are using the reply ticking feature that indents the original text of an e-mail message with a character of your choice.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On the Tools menu, select Options.

  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab.

  3. Place a check in the check box for "When replying to messages, indent original text with"

  4. Click Apply.

  5. Click the Reading tab.

  6. Place a check in the check box for "Mark my comments with" and enter your name in the field.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Open an existing email message and click Reply.

  9. Place your cursor in the original text and being to type. Notice your name is not inserted in front the text you are typing.
