SYMPTOMS

If you use Microsoft Outlook 97 to forward or send e-mail messages to an alphanumeric paging service, the messages may appear truncated after 35 characters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you send messages to the paging service in Rich Text Format.

RESOLUTION

Turn off all options to send messages as Rich Text Format.

MORE INFORMATION

Depending upon your Outlook configuration, there are several ways to clear the option to send messages as Rich Text Format. Use the appropriate method for your situation.

Address Book

If you address messages by selecting an entry in the Personal Address Book, then follow these steps to turn off Rich Text Format:

  1. Start Outlook.

  2. On the Standard toolbar, click Address Book to open your Address Book.

  3. In the "Show Names from the" list, click to select the appropriate Address Book.

  4. Click to select the address entry and then click Properties on the toolbar.

  5. Click to clear the "Always send to this recipient in Microsoft Exchange rich text format" check box, and then click OK.

NOTE: This check box is located on different tabs of the Properties dialog box, depending upon the type of Address Book and e-mail format.

Internet Mail

If your Internet Mail properties are set to use Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) when sending messages, follow these steps:

  1. On the Outlook Tools menu, click Services.

  2. On the Services tab, click to select Internet Mail and then click Properties.

  3. Under the General Tab, click Message Format.

  4. Click to clear the "Use MIME when sending messages" check box.

  5. Click OK twice to close all dialog boxes.

Internet Mail Enhancement Patch (IMEP)

If you are using IMEP as your Internet Mail information transport service, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Under the Internet E-mail tab, click to select UUENCODE.

  3. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
