The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 97

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to Add Holidays in the Calendar options, the following error message appears:

Could not locate Outlook.txt, which contains the holidays. If you moved
the file to another folder on your hard disk, click OK to locate the
file. Otherwise, run Setup again and select the Holidays and Forms
   option in Custom setup.

CAUSE

Either you did not install the Holidays during setup or the file (Outlook.txt), containing the Holidays has been moved, renamed, or deleted.

RESOLUTION

To find Outlook.txt, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click "Exit and Log Off" to quit Outlook.

  2. Click Start, point to Find, and click Files Or Folders.

  3. On the Name & Location tab, type Outlook.* in the Named box and click Find Now.

If Outlook.txt Appears in the Search Results

  1. Right-click the file name, and click Copy on the shortcut menu. Close the Find dialog.

  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

  3. In the Exploring window, locate and right-click the Office folder, and on the shortcut menu, click Paste.

NOTE: The default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office.

  4. Close the Exploring window, then start Outlook.

  5. On the Tools menu, click Options, click the Calendar tab, click Add Holidays. Click to select the location whose holidays you want to add, and then click OK.

If Outlook.txt Does Not Appear in the Search Results

  1. Quit all programs and insert your Microsoft Office 97 or Microsoft Outlook 97 CD-ROM into the drive.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run. Type the path to Setup.exe on the CD- ROM, and click OK.

NOTE: The typical path is D:\Setup.exe. Substitute the letter of your CD-ROM drive if "D" is not correct.

  3. Click Add/Remove on "Welcome to the Microsoft Office 97 Installation Maintenance Program."

  4. Click Microsoft Outlook, click Change Option, click to select Holidays and Forms, click OK, and then click Continue to add the missing files.

NOTE: When you select Microsoft Outlook, do not clear the check from the check box. Click the text, not the check box.

  5. Start Outlook.

  6. On the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Calendar tab, click Add Holidays, click to select the location whose holidays you want to add, and then click OK.
