SYMPTOMS

When accessing a folder or mailbox on a Microsoft Exchange Server using Microsoft Outlook 97, you may get the following error message:

Outlook caused a Stack Fault in Module Unknown at <address>.

CAUSE

There may be an error in one of the Outlook support files for Microsoft Exchange Server.

RESOLUTION

Rename the Microsoft Exchange Server support files, disable your anti-virus program if one exists, and reinstall Outlook.

MORE INFORMATION

Rename Support Files

  1. Rename the following files, usually found in the Windows\System folder:

    Emsabp32.dll Emsmdb32.dll Emsui32.dll Emsuix32.dll Etexch32.dll

  2. Turn off your anti-virus program. Some virus protection programs can interfere with the Microsoft Outlook 97 Setup program. If you use a virus protection program on your computer, please disable it before running Setup. You can restart the virus protection program after Setup is complete.

NOTE: If your virus detection program starts automatically when you start Windows, you can disable it by restarting Windows while holding down the SHIFT key.

  3. Re-install Outlook.
