OL97: Configuring Outlook as the Default Mail Client for MSN 2.5

SYMPTOMS

MSN, the Microsoft Network version 2.5 automatically configures Microsoft Outlook Express as the default e-mail client.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

To configure MSN 2.5 to use Microsoft Outlook 97 as the default e-mail client, use the following method:

Using the MSN 2.5 Program Viewer

  1. Start the MSN 2.5 Program Viewer.

  2. On the Communicate menu click Communicate Home Page.

  3. On the Communicate Home Page, click Frequently Asked Questions.

  4. Click Using E-Mail.

  5. Under the "How can I use the full version of Microsoft Outlook with my new Internet Mail account?" heading, click the Here link.

  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page titled, Using E-mail.

  7. In Step 3, item B, select the "click here to set Microsoft Outlook97" link.

To Reset Outlook Express as the E-mail Client

  1. Start the MSN 2.5 Program Viewer.

  2. On the Communicate menu, click Communicate Home Page.

  3. On the Communicate Home Page, click Frequently Asked Questions.

  4. Click Using E-Mail.

  5. Under the "How do I change back to using Microsoft Internet Mail or Microsoft Outlook Express as my MSN e-mail application?" heading, click the Here link.

  6. Select Outlook Express to be the default mail client and click Switch My E-Mail.
