SYMPTOMS
When you right-click an imported email address in the Personal Address
Book and click Properties you may receive the following error message:
The properties dialog box could not be displayed. The action could not
be completed.
CAUSE
The contacts were imported to the Personal Address Book with the Internet
e-mail transport in the profile.
RESOLUTION
Create a profile that has just Personal folders and a Personal Address
Book and then export the contact to your Personal Address Book.
Create a New Profile
- Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
- Click Mail and Fax, and then click Show Profiles.
- Click Add, and click to select "Manually configure information
services." Click Next.
- Type a name in Profile Name, such as New Profile, and click Next, and
click Add.
- Click to select Personal Folders then click OK. Locate your original
Personal Folder click to select it, and then click Open and OK.
- In the <profile name> Properties, click Add.
- Click to select Personal Address Book. Click OK. If the path to your
original Personal Address Book is not correct, click Browse and locate
it and open it. Click OK.
- Click OK, and Next, and then Finish.
- In "When Starting Microsoft Windows Messaging, use this profile"
click to select the profile you just created. Click Close.
Close the Control Panel.
Export Contact to Your Personal Address Book
- Double-click to open a Contact.
- Right-click the e-mail address, then click "Add to
personal address book" on the shortcut menu.
- Click Save and Close.
- On the File menu, click "Exit and Log Off."
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
- Double-click Mail and Fax.
- Click Show Profiles.
- In the list "When starting Microsoft Windows Messaging, use this
profile", click to select your original mail profile. Click Close.
- Close the Control Panel.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
These steps assume your mail profile includes:
- Internet e-mail
- Personal Folders
- Personal Address Book
To reproduce the problem, follow these steps:
- In the Contacts folder on the Contact menu, click New Contact.
- Type the information for the contact. Click Save and Close.
- Open the contact.
- Right-click the e-mail address and click "Add to Personal Address
Book" and close the contact.
- On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
- In "Show Names from the" click to select Personal
Address Book.
- Right-click an entry and click Properties.
RESULT: The error message in the SYMPTOMS section occurs.
