Last reviewed: February 21, 1997
Article ID: Q147160
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mail for PC Networks, version 3.5

SYMPTOMS

In the MS-DOS version of the Mail External program (EXTERNAL.EXE), the following errors may occur:

Could not logon to the server.

Invalid path. Reading master file. Could not connect to drive.

The desired file server was not found. Reading master file. Could not
   connect to drive.

CAUSE

The errors can occur when you use the Novell VLM for accessing NetWare servers.

The Novell VLM is unable to establish a network connection to a server. Under certain conditions these errors may occur indicating that the server is unavailable. The errors may continue to occur due to the VLMs response to the creation of a network connection.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the network effecting the Microsoft MTA, the Mail External for MS-DOS. A fix for this problem has been developed by Novell.

Contact Microsoft Product Support Services for more information on the availability of this fix.
