Lotus Notes or Powerbuilder Client Not Connect w/ Winsock Proxy

Last reviewed: December 30, 1997
Article ID: Q172419

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Proxy Server version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

After you set up the Winsock Proxy Client on a Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0, or Microsoft Windows 95 client computer with Lotus Notes 4.0 Client for 32-bit Operating Systems or Powerbuilder with Native Oracle driver, the client fails to connect with a connection error message.

The following is an example of the error message:

   NetWare Client not installed properly.

CAUSE

Powerbuilder with Native Oracle driver or the Lotus Notes 4.0 Client for 32- bit Operating Systems will not work with the Wsock32.dll file that is installed with the Winsock Proxy Client. This is due to incompatibility between the original client operating system Wsock32.dll file and the one installed with the Winsock Proxy Client.

WORKAROUND

Use the Wsock32.dll file installed with Windows 95 or Windows NT when you use Powerbuilder with Native Oracle driver or the Lotus Notes 4.0 Client for 32-bit Operating Systems. Alternatively, when you use the Winsock Proxy Client, you must use the Wsock32.dll file installed with the Winsock Proxy Client. You can do this by renaming the unused Wsock32.dll file when it is not in use.
