SYMPTOMSWhen you use Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) version 4.0 to FTP to a secure FTP server through the Proxy Server with Microsoft Windows NT Server Challenge/Response (NTLM) selected (enabled), you may get the following error message:
Access Denied CAUSEA problem exists with the NTLM in IE 4.0.
RESOLUTIONUse the Winsock proxy service for FTP requests, or use a custom security setting in Internet Explorer. Under User Authentication, select Prompt for Username and Password.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Proxy Server version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
