SYMPTOMSWhen an SMTP server gets a message that has received lines greater than the default hop count settings, an .ltr is generated. The .ltr contains the following message
Max hop count exceeded without attempting to resolve the address.The Internet Mail Server (IMS) finally returns a non-deleivery report (NDR) when the configured number of maximum retries is reached.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
