SYMPTOMSWhen using SMTP, the quote character in a quoted string is not part of the quoted string. For example, here are two scenarios detailing this symptom: Scenario 1 A mail message from
<joe \smith"@dm>will erroneously return
250 "joe smith"@dm....Sender OKbecause a quote-character (\) within a quoted string is not treated as part of it. Scenario 2 A mail message from
<joe \\smith"@dm>will erroneously return
250 "joe \smith"@dm....Sender OKbecause a quote-character (\) that is to be part of a quoted string must be preceded by a quote-character (\).
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
