Inetcfg.exe Fails to Initialize

SYMPTOMS

Inetcfg.exe fails to initialize. The following error message appears:

   The application failed to initialize properly (0x00000006). Click OK to
   terminate the application.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, run Inetcfg.exe only on the computer where it is installed. Do not run Inetcfg.exe from a remote share; doing so does not guarantee proper operation of the tool.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
