ABS: Reinstalling May Cause Invalid Access to Memory Error

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to open the Internet Service Manager LDAP Service Properties Page after removing and then reinstalling the Address Book Server (ABS), you may receive the following error message:

   Invalid access to memory location.

CAUSE

This is a problem with the Internet Information Server (IIS) service.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. Stop all IIS services, Event Viewer, and the Internet Service Manager.

  2. Completely remove the ABS service.

  3. Shut down and restart the server

  4. Reinstall the ABS service.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) ABS version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
