Mail Server uses an index file in each mailbox directory for performance purposes. The index file is a quick summary of the messages contained in the mailbox directory. If there is a network disconnection or file I/O problem during an update, the file may be corrupted and the inbox becomes inaccessible.
WORKAROUNDFollow the product documentation for restoring Mail Server mailboxes.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet Server version 1.0. A supported fix is now available, but is not fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
