The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSMicrosoft Commercial Internet Systems (MCIS) Membership Server only supports DPA Authentication for Internet Explorer version 3.02 and Netscape 3.x for Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems. Other browsers and operating systems, including UNIX, Macintosh, and others, are unable to use Membership Systems for authentication.
RESOLUTIONMicrosoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) offers the option of using clear text authentication for Mail, News, and Web services. This allows other third-party browsers and operating systems to use Membership Systems.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
