Membership User Not Prompted to Log On to Protected Sites

SYMPTOMS

When a user initially visits a membership-protected site and enters his or her user name and password (either correctly or incorrectly), that information is cached. As a result, on any future visits to the site the user is not prompted to log on.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem:

  • Have the user clear out his or her cache in his or her browser and then re-visit the site. The user will then be prompted for his or her user name and password

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet Server version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
