CAUSE

Punctuation characters are not accepted in the From address by INS.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the fix referenced below or wait for the next Microsoft Commercial Internet Server service pack.

With the fix applied, INS is modified to only accept email addresses in the form John D. Doe <johndoe@company.com>. Only the period is accepted and no other punctuation marks are accepted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a limitation in MCIS version 1.0.

A supported fix is now available, but has not been not fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
