CRS Does Not Trigger Replication When File ACLs ChangeLast reviewed: March 2, 1998Article ID: Q181870 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen the Content Replication System (CRS) is run in Automatic mode, changing an access control list (ACL) on a file does not trigger replication. However, if Internet Explorer 4.0 is installed on the start- point server and the change is made on that computer, the change will trigger replication.
CAUSEThis design limitation is due to the fact that Windows NT never notifies the CRS of the ACL change.
WORKAROUNDTo provoke replication, do the following: After an ACL change is made, you must go back and access the file a second time. This access can be either by opening the file or by using Internet Explorer to look at the file’s property. Using a tool in the Windows NT Resource Kit such as Cacls.exe can also provoke replication.
STATUSMicrosoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
