The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2

SUMMARY

Every Systems Management Server Site is given a descriptive text string during setup. This is used to identify the site to the Administrator. Once this text is entered during setup, the administrator can no longer change it through setup or Systems Management Server Administrator. This article describes how to change this.

Warning: This procedure bypasses all error checking and is unsupported. If directions are not followed exactly, database corruption can occur.

MORE INFORMATION

Below is the step by step procedure.

  1. Open the \SMS\SITE.SRV\SITECFG.BOX\SITECTRL.CT0 file using Notepad or another text editor.

  2. In the BEGIN_SITE_ACCOUNT section on approximately the sixth line find your current site name enclosed in angle brackets (<site name>).

  3. Change this entry to your new site name, making sure that it's still enclosed in angle brackets.

NOTE: Do not use any of the following characters within the angle brackets:

          <>{}"

These characters can cause the file to be rejected, possibly resulting in database corruption which may force you to restore of the Systems Management Server database or reinstall the site.

  4. Save this file as SITECTRL.CT1 in the same directory you used in Step 1.

  5. Allow the Hierarchy and Site Configuration services to process the file. This could take a few minutes to over an hour, depending on your site service settings and current Site server load.

  6. Refresh Systems Management Server Administrator and you should now see your new site name.
