Remote Control Fails With 15 Character NetBIOS Name

SYMPTOMS

SMS remote utilities fail to connect to client workstations that have a fifteen character NetBIOS name.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, make the client computer name fourteen characters or fewer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. We are researching this problem and will post new information in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
