The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SNA Server for Windows NT, versions 2.0 and 2.1

SUMMARY

When you attempt to establish a session from the SNA Server version 2.1 5250 emulator to an AS/400 version 3.1, the session attempt may stop responding (hang). This occurs in both Windows NT and Windows 3.x 5250 emulator applications. This occurs in both Windows NT and Windows 3.x 5250 emulator applications, as well as the SNA Server MS-DOS router (that is, the PC Support router replacement module).

RESOLUTION

This problem is fixed in the 5250 applets and the SNA Server MS-DOS router included with SNA Server 2.11 and subsequent releases.

To correct this problem when using SNA Server 2.1, there are two possible solutions:

  1. Install an update for OS/400 V3R1:

A fix for this problem can be obtained from IBM by requesting PTF # SF23707 or APAR # SA43763. Once this update is applied, the original SNA Server 2.1 5250 applets work correctly.

2) Install the updated SNA Server 2.1 5250 applets or MS-DOS router:

If you do not want to install the IBM OS/400 update described above,
install the SNA Server 2.1 5250 applet update (5250UP.ZIP) located on
   the following electronic services:

    - On the Internet, the file is located on the Microsoft anonymous ftp
server, which you can reach by typing the following at the ">"
      prompt:

         ftp ftp.microsoft.com

To download 5250UP.ZIP, change to the following directory:

         \bussys\winnt\sna-unsup-ed\fixes\5250up

The 5250UP.ZIP file must be uncompressed using PKZIP 2.04g or later,
   using the following command:

      pkunzip -d 5250up.zip

A README file is included. It describes how to install the update.

The key modules which fix this specific problem are:

SNASRV.EXE - Update to the Windows NT and Windows 3.x 5250 applet

INITRTR.EXE - Update to the SNA Server MS-DOS router
