Support of Old Password Field in Host Security

Last reviewed: June 24, 1997
Article ID: Q164638
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SNA Server version 3.0.

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft SNA Server does not offer a configurable option to verify the old password in a host-initiated password change before executing the change. This field is ignored.

CAUSE

This functionality was not implemented in the release of Microsoft SNA Server version 3.0.

RESOLUTION

This fix checks the following registry entry

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
                     \SnaPmp\Parameters\ValidateHostRequest : REG_DWORD: 1

where 1 = enabled and 0 = disabled. Then the Host must supply the old password for the user to apply any changes.

The updated module is \Hostsec\(cpu)\Snafile.stf.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SNA Server version 3.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft SNA Server 3.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
