SYMPTOMSThe SNA Server client for Windows 95 retrieves the wrong password from the cache during its initialization. Because the wrong password is obtained, account validation fails and the user is unable to get an application session through SNA Server.
CAUSEThe SNA Server client for Windows 95 does not expect its call to retrieve the password to succeed because the Windows 95 system does not have a password cache. If the call succeeds, the password retrieved by the client is not the correct password for the user.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SNA Server versions 3.0, 3.0SP1, 3.0 SP2, and 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression- tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
MORE INFORMATIONWith the fix applied, the call to retrieve the password from the cache is disabled by default.
