Article ID: Q124314

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server Programmer's Toolkit, version 4.2
BUG# 10801 (4.2)

SYMPTOMS

The DB-Library (DB-Lib) function dbconvert will return SUCCEED when converting a string to DATETIME, even if the time portion has not been correctly specified. The same string will cause an error if an attempt is made to convert it to DATETIME using the Transact SQL CONVERT function.

CAUSE

The dbconvert function is not correctly flagging an incorrect time as an error.

WORKAROUND

Run the Transact SQL CONVERT function to verify the validity of the string to be converted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in DB-Library version 4.20.00. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
