The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you perform an unattended installation of Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0, the Setup Initialization File allows you to specify an alternate pipe in the [Network] section. However, after the Setup program completes successfully, SQL Server will be still listening on the default pipe.
CAUSEDuring setup, SQL Server is configured to always listen on the default pipe. The default pipe is \\.\PIPE\SQL\QUERY.
WORKAROUNDSpecify the default pipe in the Setup Initialization File in the [Network] section. After installation, configure SQL Server to listen on an alternate pipe by going through SQL setup and changing network support option.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
