BUG: SQL Enterprise Mgr Limits Mirror Name To 29 Characters

SYMPTOMS

When you use SQL Enterprise Manager (SEM) to mirror a device the name is truncated to 29 characters.

However, the Mirror Name field in the Database Device Mirroring dialog box accepts more characters.

CAUSE

SQL Enterprise Manager is truncating the name of the mirror.

WORKAROUND

Use the Disk Mirror command to set up the mirror. The command is documented in the SQL Server "Transact-SQL Reference" guide, under "Disk Mirror Statement."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
