The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you use SQL Enterprise Manager (SEM) to mirror a device the name is truncated to 29 characters. However, the Mirror Name field in the Database Device Mirroring dialog box accepts more characters.
CAUSESQL Enterprise Manager is truncating the name of the mirror.
WORKAROUNDUse the Disk Mirror command to set up the mirror. The command is documented in the SQL Server "Transact-SQL Reference" guide, under "Disk Mirror Statement."
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
