BUG: xp_sendmail With @query Leaves Temporary Files on Server

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If xp_sendmail is run with a query and @attach_results is true, temporary files will be left in the System32 directory where Windows NT is installed.

WORKAROUND

  1. Use the optional parameter @attachments to specify the file name and only one file will be left in the System32 directory.

  2. Use the optional parameter @attachments to specify the file path to a temporary directory for easy cleanup later.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server versions 6.0 and 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
