Last reviewed: April 10, 1997
Article ID: Q153098
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server, version 6.5
BUG# NT: 15428 (6.5) (sqlserver)

SYMPTOMS

Users are not able to connect to SQL Server using the IPX/SPX net library because the Novell Bindery service name of the SQL Server is wrong.

CAUSE

When SQL Server is upgraded to version 6.50 the Novell Bindery service name becomes the name of the server running the setup program and not the name of the server being upgraded.

WORKAROUND

Run the setup program and select 'Change Network Support.' Choose Continue, make sure NWLink IPX/SPX is selected, and choose Continue until the Novell Bindery service name dialog box is displayed. Type the appropriate service name and choose Continue to exit the setup program. The change will take effect the next time the server is started.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server 6.50. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
