SYMPTOMSINSERTing to a table from a UNION of two or more SELECTs may result in a handled access violation if one of the SELECTs statements generates error 512. On the client side, the application will receive the following error:
Msg 512, Level 16, State 1 Subquery returned more than 1 value. The is illegal when the subquery follows =, !=, <. <=, >, >=, or when the subquery is used as an expression. DB-Library Process Dead - Connection Broken. WORKAROUNDCorrect the subquery so that it will only return only one value.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
