SYMPTOMSThis problem arises with simple scripts that use trace flag 323 to determine if UPDATE IN PLACE is occurring. When you run such a script twice, an access violation (AV) occurs.
CAUSEThe cause may lie with trace flag 323.
WORKAROUNDTo avoid this problem, do not use trace flag 323. Without the trace flag, the script will run successfully.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For more information, contact your primary support provider.
