BUG: Multi-protocol Netlib Causes Event ID 322

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft SQL Server, version 6.5

SYMPTOMS

If SQL Server is listening on the multi-protocol net-library and you start SQL Server while the SQL Executive service is running, the following Windows NT application event appears in Event Viewer:

   Event ID: 322
   Source: SQL Executive
   Description: The Data portion of event 19020 from MSSQLServer is
   invalid.

One Event ID 322 entry per network protocol (that the multi-protocol net- library is listening on) appears in Event Viewer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

Do not use the multi-protocol net-library
-or-
Start SQL Server before you start SQL Executive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
