BUG: S1093 Error on SQLDescribeParam of System Stored Procedure

SYMPTOMS

If an ODBC application prepares a call to a SQL Server system stored procedure (such as sp_help or sp_configure) and then calls SQLDescribeParam, the following error message appears:

   szSqlState = "S1093", *pfNativeError = 0
   szErrorMsg="[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]
   Invalid parameter number"

WORKAROUND

Use SQLProcedureColumns to determine the parameters for the stored procedure.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver version 2.50.0121. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
