BUG: Transfer Manager Does Not Transfer Object Permissions

Last reviewed: April 9, 1997
Article ID: Q155796
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server, version 6.5

SYMPTOMS

The Transfer Manager does not transfer object permissions and the following error message appears:

   ::Error::
   In file SERVER.db1.PRV in statement on line 1
   Transfer Status: Creating Permissions on destination database
   Invalid object name 'tablename'.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if a user creates a table in the db and grants Select on that table which the user owns to another user. After the transfer, in the new database, the second user does not have Select privilege on the table.

WORKAROUND

After the transfer completes, grant object permissions explicitly to the user.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
