BUG: Page Faults when Performance Monitor Counters Enabled

SYMPTOMS

The performance monitor object Memory, counter Page Faults/sec will not average around 0 (zero) if the SQL Server Performance Monitor counters are enabled in SQL Server Setup.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, rename the file Sqlctr60.dll in the Binn directory where SQL Server is installed. This will disable the SQL Server Performance Monitor counters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
