BUG: NOCHECK Does Not Allow Modifications to an Fkey Reference

SYMPTOMS

The NOCHECK option for the ALTER TABLE command does not allow a modification to a column or row that is referenced by a foreign key constraint.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, drop the foreign key constraint before making the modification.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
