FIX: Error 15224 Renaming Column to 1 Character with Sp_rename

SYMPTOMS

You receive the following parameter error when you attempt to use sp_rename to rename a column to a single character:

   Msg 15224, Level 11, State 15
   Error, the value for parameter NewName contains invalid characters or
   violates a basic restriction ().

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For more information, contact your primary support provider.

This problem only occurs with 6.50 with Service Pack 1 (build number 0213), not the Gold version of 6.50.
