Last reviewed: June 27, 1997
Article ID: Q166188
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server, versions 6.5 Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2
BUG #: 16290 (Windows NT: 6.5)

SYMPTOMS

When a client disconnects without a commit or a rollback on a transaction involving a global temporary table, and if the temporary table is being accessed by another client, it generates an access violation (AV) and the server stops responding. When this happens, the MSSQLServer service is not controllable using Service Control Manager functions, and must be closed by using Windows NT Resource Kit utilities or by shutting down Windows NT.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5 Service Pack 1 and 2. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For more information, contact yourprimary support provider.
