FIX: Lazywriter Access Violation During DUMP Activity

SYMPTOMS

During high activity of the Lazywriter process, a DUMP command may result in an access violation (AV) of Lazywriter. The following error appears in the errorlog:

   kernel   lazywriter: Process 2 generated access violation; SQL Server is
   terminating this process

The DUMP command is not affected by this error.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, schedule DUMP activities to occur during lowest activity for SQL Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5 Service Pack 3. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 U.S. Service Pack.
