BUG: SQL Server Allows an Invalid Device Name

SYMPTOMS

The DISK INIT command allows logical database disk device names that do not follow the rules for valid identifiers. As an example, "5TEST" would be allowed under OS/2 Microsoft SQL Server but not with the Windows NT version of Microsoft SQL Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 4.2 for OS/2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
