BUG: Concatenating Over 333 Strings Causes Stack ErrorLast reviewed: April 28, 1997Article ID: Q94895 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSUnder SQL Server 4.2 and 4.2a, attempting to concatenate over 333 strings in a TRANSACT-SQL statement will cause the SQL Server to stack fault. This behavior is independent of the length of the strings being concatenated.
WORKAROUNDSystems requiring a large number of string concatenations should structure their queries to either to create a number of intermediate VARCHAR( 255 ) columns and then concatenate these fields, or to perform string concatenation at the front end.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 4.2a for OS/2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
