SourceSafe for UNIX version 3.02 requires a Um.dat file containing a valid serial number. This number is entered by the installation script during the installation of SourceSafe for Unix. SourceSafe for Windows version 3.04 does not require a serial number but can use a Um.dat file that contains it. 1. Back up the existing database.

2. Update all existing SourceSafe file names and directory names to lowercase names.
