SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel when you insert a macro from a text file that has a long filename, Microsoft Excel may stop responding (hang). Two possible error messages you may receive are:
File not Found Device I/O ErrorNOTE: This problem does not occur if you are using Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows NT.
CAUSEThis problem occurs when you insert a macro from a text file if the filename contains more than 110 characters. The limit for long filenames in Windows 95 is 110 characters.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, open the file in Microsoft Excel version 7.0, and copy the code to the appropriate module.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
