XL5: Recorded Macro Prints Sheet Instead of Embedded ChartLast reviewed: December 1, 1997Article ID: Q149060 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn the versions of Microsoft Excel listed above, if you use a macro to print an embedded chart, the first sheet is printed rather than the entire chart. If you use recorded code that activates an embedded chart on a worksheet and then prints it, the sheet must be in the first position of the workbook; otherwise, the information on the first sheet is printed.
CAUSEAssume that there is a chart on Sheet2 with the name Chart 1, and Sheet2 is not the first sheet in the workbook. The line that reads
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOutcauses Microsoft Excel to print the first sheet in the workbook instead of the activated chart. The recorded code will be:
Sub Macro1() ActiveSheet.DrawingObjects("Chart 1").Select ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut Copies:=1 ActiveWindow.Visible = False End Sub WORKAROUNDMicrosoft provides programming examples for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability and/or fitness for a particular purpose. For more information about the support options available from Microsoft, please see the following page on the World Wide Web:
http://www.microsoft.com/support/supportnet/refguide/default.aspTo work around this problem, use either of the following methods. Method 1: Replace ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut with ActiveChart.PrintOut, as in the following example: Sub Macro1() ActiveSheet.DrawingObjects("Chart 2").Select ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 2").Activate ActiveChart.PrintOut Copies:=1 ActiveWindow.Visible = False End SubMethod 2. Place the sheet with the embedded chart in the first position of the workbook. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0 and later.
