XL7: Cannot Assign ChartObject Object to Database OLE Fields

Last reviewed: September 3, 1997
Article ID: Q153037
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Access for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Excel Visual Basic for Applications module that has an assignment of a ChartObject object to an OLE field in a Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0 database, you may receive the following error message:

ChartObject does not have Value property

CAUSE

Even though data access objects (DAO) provides a type property of Long Binary specifically for OLE objects, Visual Basic for Applications does not offer a way of assigning a ChartObject object's (or a DrawingObject object's) binary information to a database OLE field. Because the ChartObject object lacks the Value property common to many other objects, the error occurs.

RESOLUTION

Use the Clipboard to copy the chart from Microsoft Excel to the OLE database field in Microsoft Access.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
