Last reviewed: February 27, 1998

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you close a UserForm in Microsoft Excel 97, the program stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:

  • More than one UserForm is loaded into memory.

        -and-

  • One of the UserForms that is loaded into memory contains a RefEdit control.

        -and-

  • In the UserForm that contains the RefEdit control, you click the button on the control and collapse the UserForm.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not close a UserForm that is collapsed by a RefEdit control. Instead, expand the UserForm by clicking the RefEdit control button, and then close the UserForm.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel 97, a RefEdit control allows you to select a range of cells in a worksheet. When you select the range of cells, a UserForm that contains a RefEdit control collapses to allow you to see more of your worksheet.

For more information about using RefEdit controls in Microsoft Excel 97, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
