  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

In a Visual Basic for Applications macro, when you attempt to obtain the number of table rows or columns from a document range, you may receive the following error message:

   Run-time error '5907': There is no table at this location.

CAUSE

This error occurs when you use any of the following statements:

   ActiveDocument.Content.Rows.Count

   ActiveDocument.Content.Columns.Count

   ActiveDocument.Range.Rows.Count

   ActiveDocument.Range.Columns.Count

This error occurs regardless of whether a table exists in a document.

WORKAROUND

Microsoft provides examples of Visual Basic for Applications procedures for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied, including, but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability and/or fitness for a particular purpose. The Visual Basic procedures in this article are provided 'as is' and Microsoft does not guarantee that they can be used in all situations. While Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular macro, they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality, nor will they help you construct macros to meet your specific needs. If you have limited programming experience, you may want to consult one of the Microsoft Solution Providers. Solution Providers offer a wide range of fee-based services, including creating custom macros. To obtain a total count of rows in all tables in a document, set up a looping structure to iterate through the tables collection. In the following example, if a table does not exist, the value returned will be zero:

   Sub GetRowCount()
      Dim oTable As Object
      Dim iCount As Integer
      For Each oTable In ActiveDocument.Tables
         iCount = iCount + oTable.Rows.Count
      Next
      MsgBox iCount
   End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word for Windows 97. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
