BUG: 16-Bit Setup Wizard Error Occurs With Windows 95

The information in this article applies to:
  • Professional, and Enterprise Editions of Microsoft Visual Basic 16-bit, for Windows, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When launching the setup wizard for the 16-bit edition of Microsoft Visual Basic version 4.0 for Windows, the following error message is displayed:

    Because of new features in Windows 95 this program may not run
    correctly. To resolve this problem, you will probably need to obtain
    an updated version of the program.

CAUSE

The SETUPKIT.DLL file is in the \SETUPKIT\KITFILES directory.

RESOLUTION

Rename or delete the SETUPKIT.DLL file located in the Visual Basic \SETUPKIT\KITFILES directory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
