BUG: Menu Shortcut Keys Do Not Always Work

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q180529
The information in this article applies to:
  • Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When a menu is created with an ampersand character (&) to indicate a shortcut key for the menu, the menu shortcut key does not work in the emulator. Additionally, the menu shortcut keys will not work on the remote device unless the form contains a control that can receive focus (such as a CommandButton).

An example of a shortcut key would be "ALT-F" to access a menu with the caption of "&File."

RESOLUTION

There is no workaround for the emulator. For the device, ensure that there is at least one control on the form that can receive focus.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
