In the MS-DOS environment, an application that performs direct memory access (DMA) programs the hardware DMA controller with a memory buffer address. However, in the Microsoft Windows environment, the application cannot directly determine the buffer address. Therefore, Windows provides the Virtual DMA Services (VDS) to provide the information required to program the DMA controller. An application note that describes the VDS is now available. Application note PW0519 details the data structures and services required to implement the VDS in a DMA device driver in the Windows environment. Application note PW0519 is available in the Software/Data Library, through the Microsoft Download Service (MSDL), or directly from Microsoft. In the United States, application notes can be obtained by calling Microsoft Product Support Services at (206) 454-2030. Outside the United States, contact the Microsoft subsidiary or distributor that serves your country.
