SUMMARYWindows 95 and Windows NT differ in their support for SNMP. This article describes these differences.
MORE INFORMATIONThe Win32 SDK supports two sets of APIs for developing SNMP applications. One API set is for developing extension agents, and the other is for writing SNMP manager applications (Management API). Windows NT supports both sets. Under Windows 95, you can write SNMP extension agents but not SNMP manager applications. Windows NT supports the Internet-II MIB (MIB_II.MIB) as well as the LanManager MIB (LMMIB2.MIB). Windows 95 supports only the Internet-II MIB. Windows NT allows configuration of the SNMP agent through the User Interface in the Control Panel by using the Networks icon. Windows 95 does not allow this configuration. To configure the Windows 95 agent, users must modify the registry directly.
